Plastics, Waste Management
And The Circular Economy

Plastics, Waste Management And The Circular Economy

“Plastics pollution is the result of a broken take, make, and dispose system. We need to change that system and to do that we need businesses, governments, organisations, and citizens around the world to work together.”

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2019, ‘Chile joins Plastics Pact network’

Circular Economy

MATERIALS IN WORKS (M) SDN BHD

Waste management systems, not just in Malaysia but around the world, have not kept up with the rapid rise in packaging material use. Pre- and Post-industrial packaging material are indispensable and used in almost every aspect of the value chain. In a circular economy, the waste becomes a valuable resource, to be recycled as raw material and made into new products and not thrown away. This reduces the need to extract more natural resources and the impact on the environment. To transition successfully to a circular economy, the waste management system must incorporate the systematic separation of recyclables, or Separation At Source (SAS), as well as the collection and sorting of recyclables.
